I am facing this problem for the last one week...my desktop pc just freezes. nothing works....keyboard, mouse etc. even the reset button doesn't work. if I press reset, the pc doesn't restart, but instead I get this message "signal cable disconnect". I have to switch off power and then switch it back on. what could be wrong?
Signal cable disconnect ?? I think there's something abnormal with your RAM . Switch off your PC , pull down the RAM , clean and re-insert . Hope your problem will get cleared now .
It is likely the ram. Most PC's I have been fixed was all about faulty ram. I really hate the industry for having a sh*tty implementation of installing ram sticks. I'd prefer alternatives to making them rock stable like the processors' slot. But anyway, you need to get an eraser to clean the gold connectors on your ram and put back one at a time to troubleshoot. Run memtest or prime95 to be sure you don't have faulty ram.
It is definitely not the RAM. I tested by running the system with different RAM modules. My dealer says it is an issue with the hard disk, but I am not sure. under what conditions is a hard reboot needed?
The problem has been solved. My dealer was right....it was the hard disk that was causing the freezing. I bought a new Seagate hard disk and now my PC is as good as new.....
