Its easy to become a designer but hard to stay in the field as you need to update yourself daily and know the latest techniques.
"Designer" is a very broad term. You can work doing very different things in a variety of markets, and you can work as a freelancer or as a permanent employee. What is it exactly that you are interested when it comes to design? Whether only graphic design or multimedia is best for you can only be answered once you answer those other questions.
it really depends on yourself how easy you learn those things. it needs at begin lot of work to learn program using and later you have to figure out your own style and be updated to trend every week best design program is probably photoshop cs serie (cs5 is latest but i myself use cs2 which works well too) or if you are interested on vectors doing (easier to make logos and that kind of stuff) you should get adobe illustrator
I have been doing web design for several years and make very good money. I love my job as I get to be creative and help people make money. As a graphic design you have to be creative and understand what a client wants and how to create that. It’s not an easy job but if you know what You’re doing you can go a long way.

Hrmmm.. Tough question. Here's the answer. It depends! A good Gd with a degree and real artistic skills is worth a bunch of money in a big design firm. Example- I have a close friend that runs the art department for the new england patriots. She makes a BOATLOAD of money. I am still on the upswing, just starting my own design website- but my average earnings right now are somewhere around 2,800 per week. That is NOT what I take home! I still have to promote, etc. But considering I've only been up and running for a short time.. the potential is great.
To be a designer you need to be very creative in the field for long stay also need to be updated with technology and trends that are being followed.
You need to learn all about designing first. I started off with $100 and when I got a hang of everything I was getting $300 easily. Graphics is also good and in demand for the ad industry. Any design field is good provided you keep yourself updated and are open to new softwares and their updates.
Its depend on designer that from where they got a degree and what's the worth of its degree. If he will qualified so i think he will earn more then other freelance worker.
