Designing Wordpress themes

    I am interested in designing my own Wordpress theme, and was wondering if anyone here had some tips, recommended software, or recommended sites to get started.

    A friend of mine uses Artisteer to create her own designs. I don't know how much you can do with it, but she seems to like it.
