Designing for Social Media

Hi,

We have launched a test of a social media site - www.tripshows.net

the initial page is currently a place holder. it links to the actual page. I've been comparing KickApps (what we use) to Ning.

Ning seems to be denser in information while KickApps more flexible.

Any opinions on the site?

BTW - I posted a FREE T-Shirt bound in the graphics and multimedia forum to help get more contnet on the site.

 

well I don't know which script you should use but you should get a more appealing design. the current one looks cheap in my eyes. it's ok to have a simple design but then everything need to fit.

 

That was one I threw together quickly. Any suggestions for a good template would be appreciated.

What did you think of the main site though?

 

the main page is ok but the header and navigation omages get blocked by adblockers so you should do something about that.

for the design I can only recomend you to use a friendly color sheme and not more then 3 colors at on page

 

do you mean the elephants picture? What navigation images are being blocked?

i think the idea is cool. categories are also well divided and defined: blogs, pictures, videos, atc. - many ways to share trip experiences.
i agree that the banner or header in the top needs to be replaced with something more communicative and clear.
also i suggest to ad at least 3 blogs - its not hard to find someone who will be happy to share his/hers current or past trip experiences. if you dont find - write it yourself, based on former trip experiences you had. its important because if someone gets this page and sees:
'Sorry, there aren't any matching results'
he/she may get the impression this site is not updated, or old.
adding that kind of content may also be beneficial in promotion (SEOing - without go into details)

why trying kickapps.com....... I think you are just forwarding your domain and sharing revenue from them..... you could try some free scripts so that you can have your whole add revenue.....
