And I will be sending out a press release immediately after this. I know that there are just so MANY talented designers in DP forum. I just can't ignore that fact that I have to make this announcement. You see, there are WordPress theme gallery, there are CSS websites gallery, there are Joomla template gallery, there are dozens more galleries out there specifically for certain types of software or function... But I didn't quite find one for mini-sites. So I started one... MiniSiteGallery.com. By mini-sites, I am talking about those direct responses, sales letter, -type websites. You know, header, footer, content inside... preferably with e-cover designs too. This is NOT some OTO-Butterfly type membership site. And this is not a squeeze page. And this is also not a site trying to sell something to you by being RIGHT in your face. It's a mini-site templates gallery... Marketers can go there and download free mini site templates. Designers can go there to submit templates and showcase their skills. Designers can also get some design inspirations from other people's templates. But right now, I am facing the challenge of getting the site off the ground. Right now, I only have two templates which I designed myself in there. It's not much of a gallery with just two templates... Yeah, I know. So that is why I am making this announcement... I am hosting a design contest for mini site designers. And the winner will walk away with $500 (coming from my own pocket - I welcome others who want to sponsor this event). Honestly, I wanted to give the winner an iPod Touch or a Nokia N810. But there are legal issues when it comes to sending electronics/telecommunication devices to cross international borders with the postal services. So I guess I'll play safe and give cash prize instead. Yes, my objective is to gather more templates in my gallery. But you gain too when more people come to MiniSiteGallery.com to see your designs. In fact, this contest is going to be judged by ... THE VISITORS. From now till 29 February 2008, you can submit your mini-site templates for entries. And from 1 March to 31 March the judging begins. I will enable my voting plugin on my gallery which will allows visitors to cast their votes. And I will start the voting by sending an announcement to my own 7000 mailing list. So I guess that's all then. If you feel that you can add up to the number or templates for free download, then please do. Just submit your entry using the Submit page. As far as i can tell this constitutes Speculative work. You can have as many designs as you want and choose from the best of them all you want, provided you pay each designer for the work they do. Magazines like Times pay 5 designers to do 5 designs each issue and they choose the best of the 5, but the differnce is, each designer gets paid. I don't know what jurisdiction you live in, but where I am Spec Work constitutes a crime. check out no-spec(dot)com for more details
