Since I'm adding some more pages (incl a forum) to my arcade site I need somewhere to put all the links to different pages. Website After some deliberation I've decided the best way to do add tabs above the existing buttons. Here's a (very rough paintshop) diagram of what I mean: (click to see large version). Basically I'm looking for the best design for these tabs. It may require redesigning the buttons as well to make them fit together. I'm completely open to ideas of how it can look, if you want to move/change the logo, location of the tabs, colours or anything like that give it a go and I'll give you some feedback on it. If you make more changes than I have asked for and I choose your design I would also be open to giving you extra $ for the extra work you have done. Notes: 1. I would prefer the buttons to remain text links, so they load faster and are easy to change. I don't mind the tabs being images though. 2. Any questions please ask them in the thread so everyone can see the answers. 3. + rep for everyone who enters with a decent entry. 4. I plan on running this competition for a few days or until there is an entry I am happy with. 5. If you can code it great but if not don't worry about it, I will do it myself/find a coder. 6. It should be possible to add more tabs/buttons as the site grows. The winner will get $20 in their paypal + the possibilty of more work as I have some more changes I need done around the site. Good luck!!
So, do you want a new "games", "Forum", and "About" tabs or all new tabs? Do they need to match your current layout? - Sam
Hi Sam, Yep those are the tabs I want. In my description: Tabs = "Games", "Forum" & "About" (the ones I drew badly), need to be added. Buttons = "Home", "Action" etc. (the ones already on the site). It doesn't necesarily have to match the current colour scheme, you could change the colours of the whole header if you wanted + I would consider changing the rest of the site to match. If you can make the current colours work though that will ofcourse make it a little easier. -Gaz
That's not bad retzseo. I require 2 tiers of navigation however as in my (terrible, lol) diagram. ie. if you select the primary tab "games" a set of secondary buttons will show below it linking to the different game categories + likewise for "forum" and "about". -Gaz
Ok. Here is my entry. I did two sets of tabs. One is the style you wanted and one is somethng I designed myself. Note that these are in 100% vector. Thanks.
@ xangular: I don't like your first entry very much as the both the primary and secondary tabs look the same + it would be better if the there was some differentiation between them. Your second entry is pretty good though, the part where it says home in big text would be better used to hold the logo, perhaps if you made it a bit wider + I used a shorter logo that I currently have that might work. Is the arrow unerneath the games link to signify that is the current category? @digitalphoenix: I really like the way you have done the two seperate layers in this one. At the moment I don't like the colours very much, I already think my site is a little bit too dark + this seems even darker. Although I don't like your new logo I like the size and position of it. So the primary tab bar doesn't look so empty I think it would be good to chop it in half and put it alongside the logo instead of underneath it. @everyone: Here are couple of sites I like the navigation of: Digg.com Hallpass.com (I especially like the way it's really clear which of the primary tabs is selected here). GamesForWork.com (although that only has one layer of tabs and I need 2).
@ Xangular: That's a really good effort! I love how clear it is. It is defo your best submission. @QWCfab: This is my favourite so far though, it looks very web 2.0. I've sent you a PM about turning this in to a full design (since it clashes with + looks better than my current colour scheme). If you can make it work as a page design then this will be the immediate winner
@digitalphoenix: That is a really good entry. Much lighter + with some other adjustments around the page I can see that looking quite good. As soon as prateeks entry is in I will announce the winner.
@digitalphoenix: That is your best yet + it is a design I would definitely consider using. Prateek just sent me his entry via PM so it's time to announce the winner. 1st = QWCfab Joint 2nd = Xangular & DigitalPhoenix Thanks for entering everybody. I'll be running some more competitions soon + I hope I'll see you entering some of those too. This contest is now closed.
