    Ok...here's the scoop:

When I'm not marketing online I'm a home inspector. This is my site:

    http://www.SBHomeInspection.com

Now it's hosted by another compnay for $21.95 a month - which is absolutely ridiculous. I have recently purchased free hosting and unlimited space so I would like to transfer all the files from the home inspection site to my new server. They do not want me to do this and have everything hidden at their ftp.

    Now here are the questions:

When I move the page away from their hosting....the header will quit working. Is there anyway to duplicate this header or copy it without having access to their ftp ?

Secondly if it is impossible to take away from them....is there anyone that can redesign this header or something similar to it?

Lastly, Without ftp access how can I get all these pages....obviously there is alot of pages there...how can I take the pages and move them to my server?....do I have to copy everypages source and save them in manually or is there a easier way to do this that I do not know about?

    Any help is appreciated !!

    JR

if you are using a reputable host there is no way legally they can stop you having access........ I hope you are not trying to rip-off someone elses site ;)

I could replicate the top for you easily.

Just so you know the link to your site gets redirected to http://www.safebuyhi.com

Now, who is your hosting provider, and where have you gotten your new Web space at (if you need affordable Web space, hostgator.com will do quite nicely for $10/month)?

Firstly, do you own the copyright to your site? If you dont, which you dont have automatically simply because you paid someone for it, then you shouldnt be taking it with you anyway.

There are plenty of tools that will gather all the static elements from your site for you but naturally this is no use if the site is based on a CMS or shopping cart etc.

Just visit the site, click File, then Save As, then choose a location to save it too. POOF! Now you have a copy of the site!

    Cheers!

One would think he does (yes, I'm playing devil's advocate here). I don't know if he's using a CMS, and frankly it doesn't matter. If the content is his (he wrote it, he hired someone to write it for him on a work for hire basis, etc...) then the copyright is his and his alone. Same with the design.

In which case I'd contact his hosting provider's ISP via a DMCA notice (if the server and ISP are in the US).

But again, playing devil's advocate here. :)

Actually, all you get is a copy of the HTML code. Sure, you can also save copies of the images, CSS and JavaScript files, but that'll be it. If any part of the site is being dynamically generated at run-time, you're SOL because you'll never have access to the source code - just the output.

Can anyone give me a price on what it would cost to do this for me?

As in.....moving the files to my ftp and getting the header?

Your site has a PHP based search built into it and therefore if you dont want to lose that it will require some development work.

If you lose that it is only an hour or two to download all the pages, correct the links and create a very quick form mail script for the contact page.

it is a site search facility (php is just the language/ frame work it has been created in) - thought slightly concerned you dont know what is on your own site.

The link to it is http://www.safebuyhi.com/?D=20
