Design Help!

    I am getting a fair amount of traffic to my site hostgatorsignups.com but my conversion is lacking. I have never designed a site from scratch and this is my first attempt. I think it looks a bit amateurish and needs some help. I did it in HTML code that I found on a few different tutorial sites as I am not a coder. I would really like to have an awesome template or something but I don't know how to create one. Are they expensive to have someone make?

    Could I please get some recommendations or ideas from you guys? Should I go with a prebuilt template or something? I am still learning about web 2.0 and xhtml and all those terms and I am very confused.

    I guess this is more or less a landing page rather than a website?

    I posted here in the design section as I felt this was a better place for my questions because I am not looking for just reviews.

    I think the design is crutial on any website, that design that is on there at the moment is just going to turn people away. You could make some great money with this site if you get a better design. Personally I would find a great template for the time being until you start bringing in some money then I would pay somebody to design and code a new design with everything intergrated. But you could have a big money earner there.

    Congratz on your entry to HTML, you are on your first step towards building websites. :)
    Knowing HTML, XHTML or what not isn't going to help you though if the site is not laid out properly (designed). There are plenty of ready made templates you can use. Or you can pay a designer to custom create one for you. Generally before any code is done, a design/template is created. The purpose of HTML/XHTML is then to translate your layout into a browser readable structure. Good luck

    Hi,

    Beginner always confuse about css,web 2.0, etc..
    My recommendation are :

    1) Always, always , always use template first for beginner.You can search at google.
    2) Start with basic design.Very basic.Than publish you website.
    3) From time to time you can add & improve your website.

    This technique will save lot of your time.You can learn css while updating your website by phase.Of cource this techinque is for beginner.
