Hi guys. Here's the question: imagine I've seen some graphic/design stuff, I liked it and want to create it from scratch. It means I'm using my fonts, styles, textures and pictures, and all other resources. So can I sell it or give it away like a freebies? The question is about ripping some ideas from other ready-made desings... Thanks.
you can't copyright ideas. we all have to get our inspiration from somewhere... even great musicians have inspirations and ideas that lead them to their own creations.
You can't copyright ideas, but you do have legal protection over designs. Can you be "inspired"? Yes. Can you steal? No. But this doesn't belong in this forum anyway (copyright is not the same as copywriting). Ask in the legal forum.
Yes, but if you are changing it ENOUGH - theres no worry. look and feel (as far as I know) is almost like a copycat ...ie: a site trying to imitate the look of "Paypal" and profit from their "look and feel" by confusing people. There are very few truly original ideas anymore - its all the viewpoint or spin you put on it, to make it yours. aside from that, I believe OP was referring to buttons and graphics- not an entire web design. If they are using their own graphics, fonts, colors I don't see a problem. I relate it to doing research for an article or column - I look at lots of information and gather it, but the end result is my own creation.
It sounds that what you will do is legal if you are changing fonts, styles, textures and pictures, and all other resources
It depends on whether they're actually changing the fonts and such. When I read the original post, it sounded more like they wanted to "recreate" a design, but doing it with what they have available. In that case, no you can't sell it. If they're making something similar with unique fonts, graphics and such, it might be different depending on how unique the finished project is in comparison.
Hi If you change the content and use your own creativity then its ok to do like this way. Let me also tell you that its more better and best to use yoru own creativity as well
Changing the content has absolutely NO effect on whether a design is infringing on a protected design.
