Hi, I am new to online marketing, and am finding it quite confusing. I have done all the basics, like registering a domain, setting up an account on Wix, setting up an autoresponder, getting an account on Clickbank and selected some products in my chosen niche. But I read about guys who have hundreds of web sites. Does this mean they have hundreds of domain names also? Or do they promotes all their products from a single domain? Specifically: Do I create a home page with a menu which links to all my product pages? This doesn't seem to be what most people do) Or do I create multiple pages with no navigation between them, and treat each page as a web site in its own right - ie single page web sites. If the second option is the preferred one, what do I put on my domain home page (eg: www.mydomain.com) Sorry to be asking such a fundamental question, but I have never seen this issue addressed by any of the "gurus". Maybe the question can be sorted out by one of you? Cheers, Duncan
First of all you have already made a huge mistake. Wix is not appropriate for a commercial operation. They only allow acces to a limited small set of the tools and resources you actually need to operate a web site and build traffic from convertible users. I also understand that they put up roadblocks and withhold some resources that you may think are your property when you discover how crappy they are and try to move to a full service hosting service. So before you do anything you should be doing research to find a full service host. Three tips: You will never get more than you pay for, and frequently you will get less Any host offering unlimited bandwidth or unlimited storage is lying and scamming; walk away fro such offers. Easy sitebuilders are pure crap; so are most other tools that claim to be easy and not require knowledge of web develpment. using the crap will not give you a site that is competitive unless you are very skilled in the web dev technologies, or you hire a proseeional developer to do the work There are no short cuts and there is no easy way to build a successful web site. It is hard, highly skilled work and you will either need to invest some time learning or hire a professional; there are no shortcuts that lead to success.
Thanks for the advice re: Wix. And thanks for the background info regarding skills required to build a web site. As for my specific question, though, you have made no comment. I have decided to move my operations to Wordpress and have it hosted by GoDaddy. Would you think this is a good move? I will also register a separate domain for each niche I wish to market in. Regards, Duncan
The answer to the main question is never going to be definitive, because we do not know the enviroment you are in the competition level, the product line or anything else about the business. if you know the business then you should know how to present the product. If you are new to the business, then you need market research to determine the best model. In general the best way to proceed is to have a home page with a menu that links to category pages where you present product. If all you do is put your products on pages you will be disappointed in the traffic you get. You need search engine traffic to succeed, and the search engines are not interested in your products, they are interested in well written unique content related to your products. If you are not capable of producing such content then you should hire a professional writer to do the work. You will need to be patient. Generally it takes 6 months to 2 years for search engines to index and rank you at a level that results in high levels of traffic, and you will only get that traffic if they like the content and consider it relevant. As for Wordpress it is crap just like virtually all the off the shelf junk. If you don't have the skills to write you own code and you can't afford to hire a professional developer, then Wordpress is no worse than the other junk, and is the most popular bit of trash in the junkyard. If you are in this for the long term, then you would be well advised to invest a little time in acquiring at least basic skills in the main Web Development technologies. As for godaddy. If wix is a 1 on a scale of one to 10; then godaddy is about a 2.5. They will beat you up with extra charges. The big part of their business is with non-professional developers, so they limit themselves to only supply the bare minimum and charge extra for just about anything you will need to add as you go along. It may be alright for a new startup, but as soon as you start to grow you should look for a higher end host with a large clientele of successful businesses. Cd&
Thanks for your nicely crafted response. This is exactly the sort of advice I have been after. Cheers mate, Duncan
Wordpress is a good platform to start learning how to set up a web site and run an online business, unless you have a big plan for your project. It covers all the basic you need to know about website design and database structure. For starter, I suggest you install XAMPP or something on your machine and start modify existing themes to your liking, until you have the feeling you want to craft your own platform. For hosting, if you don't mind about the budget try a VPS plan or a could for scale-able flexibility. It is worth to learn than shared web hosting. For me, I would use at least multi-core processor Cheers
If you are a starter in wordpress, you might want to install this plug in from WPMUDEV https://premium.wpmudev.org/project/unbranded-video-tutorials/ to install this plug in. 1. Log in to your Wordpress 2. Navigate to Plug in then Add New 3. Then Upload Plug in 4. Activate the Plug in 5. Then Navigate to Dashboard and there you can see the Video Tutorial Tab
