i've seen the text excerpt in the google listing for one of my sites disappear and the come back again. a listing in google is normally: titile followind by some text and then followed by the url i've seen that change to only containing title and url - the text has gone missing. anyone know why this is happening?
I've noticed that pages without much content that bots can read don't get a description...do you have text G can read?
Interesting. I rank #1 for a phrase and the result is pulled word for word from my directory listing. Can't say I have ever seen that in Google before.
yeah, there are lots of text and i use the meta tag for description. everything's back to normal again - google's acting weird - i see this happen every once in a while...
Updates. Caught between updates, it happens quite often in my experience. Can't think of anything else in your case.
Google has been using the dmoz descriptions where applicable on their SERPS, especially if the search word is included in the dmoz description.
Funny you say that ... because today is the first time google used my meta tag as description... i seen it take text from the "alt" tag but never from the meta. Anyways it's probabaly from the meta. or alt./
It depends what you search for. If the page is ranked for that search term, Google will try to find a snippet containing that search phrase wherever it can... meta description, on page copntent, filename, whatever...
when i search for my company name the DMOZ title appears in the serps, also when i search on anything with vacation in the kw term my dmoz description appears. This is only when Im searching on .com not .co.uk
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=futon+furniture&btnG=Google+Search #1 result. The title and description are taken directly from the directory listing.
Yeah but: 1. http://www.google.com/search?source...LD,GGLD:2005-12,GGLD:en&q=ottawa+psychologist -- #1 result: from the page, NOT from DMOZ 2. http://www.google.com/search?source...=GGLD,GGLD:2005-12,GGLD:en&q=psychology+forum -- #5 result: Not from the page, NOT from DMOZ 3. Google Alerts: NOT from the page, NOT from DMOZ. I've been noticing things like this for the last few weeks only. Where are these non-page non-DMOZ snippets coming from?
