I had a client tell me his 13 year old son could have designed it! So why are you paying me? Oh wait, because I'm a professionally trained and educated graphic designer with years of experience and a very successful freelance business.

The way I look at is if you don't like a proof I send you don't be rude about it. Look at the design and see if there are any aspects you do like and we'll work from there, if not we'll design new options for you. It's just so uncalled for to be down right mean. People seem to lose their class and manners when it comes to email.

Ha, that's funny, over the years I've heard similar comments related to a child doing a better job, however when it came down to it, the client was merely:

A: Trying to get a discounted rate through unethical tactics.
B: Having a difficult time communicating what they do & don't like, becoming frustrated.
C: No longer have the money to pay for the project, so they are using an unethical tactic to switch the blame to somehow feel better about it.
D: Don't know how to have a civil conversation & problem solve with others.
E: Are truly unhappy with the designers work & have no interest in continuing with business no matter what.

All of the above of course can be avoided with better communication between both the designer & client. If a situation does arise that causes anger, Tact is essential in order to keep both parties content with the outcome, no matter what it is.
