Depressed, don't make the same mistake I did.

I think am probably the worse IM ever. Everything has gone wacko for me since I started. I invested 4k worth of programing into a site only to have to probably scrap it due to bad coding. It seems I spend alot of time waiting for things to finish and when it did I find other things to add to it further delaying the launch and now to scrap it is a little hard to take. So much time and money wasted. I did however learn some very costly but valuable lesson. Here is some of the things I learned.

    - Don't wait for things to be perfect to launch, no site is ever perfect

    - When hiring someone to do a job, make sure to tell them EXACKLY what you want. Don't try to give them the benifit of the doubt, no guessing ever!

    - Stop hanging around the board so much, you'll get distracted and loose focus. Learn enought to start your own site and only come back occasionaly to ask some questions or answer some.

    - Don't try and reinvent the wheel, If I knew what I know how, noway I would have spend 4k for coding. I could have gotten that for half the price and half the time. Someone, somewhere a programer has already done what you wanted... FIND HIM!

Hope what I wrote help somebody. Probably not gonna get any sleep tonight.

A costly lesson indeed... However, I don't think you can ever come to DP too much. Its about how you take in the information which you gather here. Cheer up and look towards the future.

I'm sorry to hear about your failure... :( Well at least you have learned a valuable lesson as you have already said :)

This point is so true! I'm working on a site now which I've been working on for a while now but I'm sure I could have finished it if I didn't hang around here so much...

    DP is poison! ;)

Gee - $5! I would call that a pretty sucky investment.

Hope you are able to find a solution and a way to make something good come from this mess.

While nothing I can say will change things here, I can tell you it happens more than you think on every part of the spectrum. I've seen it, felt it and been through it more times than I care to remember, ultimately in business as in life, all you can really hope for is to win more times than you lose.

I know it sounds really corny but what ever doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. While I didn't believe that 15 years ago, I do today.

$4K is a lot of money to loose. If that can make you feel any better, I lost more than that in some investments.
Just try to be more careful next time. You might be able to make up that money if you apply the lessons learned.
