Denounce Illegal Websites to Google?

    Hi

Is there a mechanism within Google to report illegal websites?

I am currently working with a client who is fully licensed in their field and I am optimising their site as their ranking is very poor.

Looking at the competition they are all operating without the necessary licenses required to trade!

My client is currently trying to address this through the proper channels but I wonder if there is anything that I can do with Google to help my promoting their website?

    Thanks in advance

That's not an illegal website - the content may be, but not the website. Google is not going to mess with it. If your client wants to, they way file an DMCA and that's it from Google's point of view. Good luck.

    I have to disagree.

The competition are operating an illegal business, all associated material, including the website is thus illegal.

I am quite sure that Google will not want to involve itself as it will only damage their presence and ultimately their income.

It is just a shame that there is no mechanism in place to stop these illegal businesses from appearing in search engine results.

    Would certainly help my cause!!

As i said above, that doesn't make the website illegal. IF the business is illegal, then your client needs to address that issue to proper authorities. Those are slitly different things: a website and a business.

EDIT: Google won't de-rank a site just because you say so - place a case at proper authorities, win it and then email Google about it.

Many different occupations have very specific and detailed regulations that would require you to be an expert in that field to decide right from wrong. The regulations would also vary from country to country.

Google can't be expected to be a regulator for all of these disciplines in all of these countries.

Exactly. That's why they need to win first a DMCA for Google to notice them. Otherwise, just local authorities.

I know it sucks, but that's just the way it goes :(.
