Unfortunately, we as a nation are not projecting strength right now.

What we are projecting is "We're a nation who will surrender if this conflict gets just a little eentsy teensy bit worse."

What does this do? It motivates the Islamists to pick up the pace. It keeps them in the fight.

If we projected strength by sending the message "We're going to win, at any cost. We're never going to give up, no matter what. We're in this for the long haul, whether that is a hundred years or ten thousand -- we're here to stay." -- then the Islamists would be demoralized and we would have a decent chance at peace.
