Demand for a wholesale directory

Hey all;

I've had some great and some bungled experiences with niche directories and was wondering if there is a demand here for a niche wholesale directory?

If there are a few responses to this thread I'll start one up and put a couple hundred into it buying links from aviva, alive, romow, and start it as free so it will be worth your while.

But if there's going to be little/no demand then I'm going to not use a directory but some other means.

I like the idea. There should be a lot of wholesale businesses out there these days. But I am not sure if those owners are aware of the opportunity to advertise on a directory. That's always the hardest part. If they know, they will most likely submit their links to your directory.

That's a good niche though. According to overture keyword search, wholesale directory is searched 1865 times. FYI, SERPs for wholesale directory is pretty much dominated by wholesaledir.com in all search engines. (google - 1, Yahoo! - 1, MSN - 3)

In terms of SEO, it could be difficult. But of course you can target a better keyword. (wholesale product directory is the 2nd most popular searched terms with only 435 result)
