Dell XPS 410 or XPS 710?

    Hello Everyone,
I'm just wondering if anyone has any knowledge of the 410 or the 710? My brother has the 410, but I really love the looks of the 710. However I have only seen the 410 in person and the 710 on Dell's website.

Anyway, which would you prefer and why? For around $1,700 I can get either the 410 or the 710. The difference is that the 410 would come with 2.66Ghz and 4 gigs of ram. While the 710 would only come with 2.4Ghz and 2 gigs of ram, but the 710 comes with a better case for cooling

I'm kind of confused on what to get here... so any help would be great! :)

Well, it depends on what you plan on using it for. If you're a gamer, I'd get the 410 with the extra RAM and better processor. For office uses, such as just browsing the web, emailing, etc, go for the 710.

I'll be using it to design websites, which means I'll need to have my FTP program, photoshop, and a few other programs all open and operating at once. My current Gateway PC freezes constantly each time I have all of that stuff open. Perhaps it could just be the 128 MB's of ram LOL.

Yeah, it's probably cause of the low RAM you currently have. 2 gigs of RAM should be plenty enough to handle what you described :)

I'd choose extra ram, then you can open lots of applications at the same time. I find that after a while my photoshop uses tons of ram when I have like 20 logo designs open.

Gateway is a smaller company so their prices are steeper. The exact same system from gateway to dell will cost around $300-$400 more. I've had a few gateways in the past which is why I'm looking to upgrade to a dell. My bro has a Dell XPS 410 with the 20" ultrasharp monitor and it's very nice! Hasn't had not one problem with it so far and he's had it for about a year.

I have a 410. Great PC. It has great bank for the buck. If you have enough money, build your own computer. If you have a limited budget, go with the 410. It's a good pc for a great price.

Post links to them so I can check them out. The 710 might have a better graphics card.

Get the crappiest card it comes with and upgrade to an 8800 GTX. Dell tries to rip you off on crappy graphics cards.

My gateway is a piece lol... 128MB's of ram with a 1.0 GHz AMD processor & a 40 gig HD. I'm not sure how old it is, but it is definitely time for an upgrade. Many years ago back when I first bought it I had to pay like $2,500 because it was the largest at the time lol. Gateways do last... I haven't had to replace any parts in it.

I pretty much use my PC to make a few extra bucks each month. This gateway really slows me down. If I had a newer PC I could be taking on twice as many jobs. I don't really have the money for a new one, but I figured this newer PC can actually pay for itself.

I have another question about this PC. I'm discussing processors on another website and they brought up a lot of great info on each one and I'm not sure what to get.

The 410 system I'm looking at comes with a 2.13Ghz Core2 Duo processor. Here are my options to upgrade and I would like at least a 2.4Ghz:

    Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6600 (4MB L2 Cache,2.4GHz,1066 FSB) ADD $50
    Intel® Core™ 2 Q6600 Quad-Core (8MB L2 cache,2.4GHz,1066FSB) ADD $100
    Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6700 (4MB L2 Cache,2.66GHz,1066 FSB) ADD $250

Which processor do you think I should choose and why? I have the money to choose anyone of them, but I don't want to spend the extra money on something that I'm not going to need if you know what I mean. Also, will my older programs such as Adobe photoshop 7.0 work with these processors?
