Personally I like Dells better. They seem to run better, but HP's are easier to work on, being a computer tech. My first computer was an HP Pavilion, bout ten years ago at 8 years old. Since then Ive been through Compaqs, Dell's, Toshiba's, Gateways, and even more HP's. My favorite seems to be Compaq's though.

yeah, i agree with dell being better.
At least where i live, Dell has maintained a good customer Support and they seems friendlier than HP.
Dell also does a lot of advertising over here and are willing to help.
Furthermore, you can basically endlessly customize your product with DELL.

    I'd take a DELL :)

Good luck with your purchase man!

If you worked for both Dell & HP you'll never buy or recommend a Dell again. ;)

    Dell, all the way :)

They have great support, build solid systems, deliver quickly, and their sales staff has always accepted my returns when I sent them back in even the reason I gave was 'my dad just didn't like the laptop'. Awesome.

Oh, and don't ever buy a computer for your parents who have trouble with email. They will call you and tell you how broken it is...everyday...

I would never buy a Dell, I've heard that they have lots of problems. If I had to pick, I'd get the HP

i go for dell, but it always depends on the model. I used to work for compaq, some models were crap and we were hammered by angry customers. Some other models are still on the market after 4 years with almost no calls about it. Depending on the pc you buy, your opinion about the brand will change.

For example , the presario 700 from compaq was not very good but the m700 and m300 were

In dell, the inspiron 9100 was too heavy , noisy and the backlight was a problem, but now some or their models rock...

So I wonder if this question can be answered
