Dell and Google?

A spokesman from Dell confirmed that they are negociating a coopertion with Google, so that many of Googles programs will be preinstalled on their machines

G is going to pay $ 1 billion

 

Why would google pay? shouldn't be Dell paying?

 

Its google that gains exposure from it, therefore they pay.

 

Reports indicate that its going to be shipped on a load of pc's at about $10 per pc..

Would take a user many clicks on adwords to make google $10

Wow this is an interesting concept.

Considering Dell are one of if not the largest corporation to distribute and make mainstream computing easy.

They must ship millions of PC's and now everyone will have google branding on their PC.

I wonder if users will be offered a discount for google laden computers?

I guess it depends to what extent google is pre-loaded onto the computers but they would want to have it as an extra option when re-installing the computer. Otherwise it would be very annoying if you didnt want google on there.

Google has also found a way ( to fight microsoft) to get their product pre-installed on people's computer (again, like microsoft).

 

Google's going to try to take over the world...watch out, here comes "big brother".

Good business move on their part, so many people have no idea of all of the programs that Google has/runs.

 

what would happen if MSFT suddenly raised their OEM price for Windows by 200% until Dell stopped shipping this Google crap?

Microsoft will not let this happen. Dell needs Microsoft. What is Dell going to do, start shipping Linux boxes to consumers?

Micosoft and AOL, among others, were doing this for years and still are doing it, and nobody has every offered a discount. Instead, users have to go through and uninstall the 10 different spammy programs and icons all over their desktops and start menus.

 

I keep wondering what they are going to do with the dark fiber they are buying and the portable data centers they have developed. The Dell deal seems minor in comparison.

 

Yeah, I already experienced this problem. My new Dell comp got Google Desktop and a bunch of adware that I had trouble deteling, even called to Dell customer service to complain. They sales stuff with indian accent didn't help. I was very upset. In fact, I am still upset, because I think that customer must be aware what kind of software they pre-install and they should give you a choice. Unfortunately, current situation doesn't leave a choice to you. Has any one experienced the same problem?

 

Google desktop could be a critical issue, especially for companies. Toolbar enterprise I think is what they are working out now quickly with lots of options - pretty good tools so far -
