Delicious.com or del.icio.us and SEO Still a Good Option?

    Hello,

Is it me or are the bookmarks from accounts at Delicious not being indexed by the major search engines? This is very disappointing considering that so many others like StumbleUpon or Jumptags are being indexed and help to support linking strategies and additional URL's being ranked.

A few things we checked out:
    1. We checked to see if our Delicious URL was indexed and it was not found.

    2. We found some rumblings on the web about this at places like the following URL's.

    http://www.seoptimise.com/blog/2008/08/deliciouscom-relaunch-a-very-smart-seo-move.html

    http://seoblog.intrapromote.com/2006/08/delicious_cloak.html

    3. At Delicious at the below URL is the following verbiage in their Help/Support area http://delicious.com/help/faq#button

"How can I promote my website or advertise on Delicious?
Bookmarking websites in order to promote or advertise them is considered spamming, and that's against our Terms of Service. If you'd like to advertise on Delicious, you can use Yahoo! Search Marketing to be in Sponsored Search results within Delicious."

Depending upon how one would use social bookmarks for SEO there may be other options, but under these circumstances it certainly doesn't look like it's worth using Delicious.

Anyone have any feedback on this?

Yes! Very good option.. although it is harder to get links to stick as people are catching onto linkbuilding :)

You are not the only one I'm also not seeing delicious bookmarks show up as backlinks.

This is what it says on their site... "Bookmark things for yourself and friends"

So it's funny that they mention that you shouldn't bookmark your own websites. Why not if you bookmark for yourself? If that's all you were doing, sure that would be considered spam, but if you were also bookmarking other websites, I would have thought that would be OK.

Yeah bookmarking can get damn tricky with Delicious. I think the best value it offers is having your page hit the popular section of bookmarked in delicious. Other than that, I don't think it provides much value with backlinks.

It's funny because everyone used to say how Delicious was the best social bookmarking site.
