Ok, so a little wrong doing of mine a while back has come back to haunt me. I used to work for a gaming news site as an admin. However I quit the job, but they never deleted my admin account. Recently, I had a "moment" and deleted all the admin accounts, including mine, but I left out one other admin who I did not remember about. Now the guys are mad, but think another ex-admin is responsible for the deed. The thing is, due to the fact that there is no system to tell who did what, there is no solid evidence to link who deleted what accounts. The only thing they know is who was online within the last 24 hours of the incident. I even went on to delete my own account in the burst. They want to press legal charges against the person who deleted the accounts. Right now, I seem to be in the clear because they are unable to pinpoint who exactly deleted the accounts, but I am a bit worried still. Can I be charged for deleting the accounts even if I did have an admin level account? Or can I escape the charge simply by saying that they have no solid evidence linking me to the incident?
I would delete your post. It cannot serve you well. If you are contacted or accused I would immediately speak to an attorney before responding in any manner. You did a bad thing which carries serious consequences. If you are concerned see an attorney immediately.
Not the smartest thing to do......... You have accessed a system without authorization. and / or used a document to a pecuniary advantage. Also, did you consider that your IP address is logged? This is in the raw webserver logs. If there is any legal action taken, there will be a formal audit of those logs.... I highly recommend you contact them and apologize before its too late.
