deleting folders using microsofts comand prompt?

I REALLY need help. For school, we are using an online-based software that requires internet explorer 7 or 8. My Internet Explorer 8 is completely messed up. It needs to be reinstalled, but I've tried EVERYTHING I can possibly do to delete the files and reinstall it.

I've come to the conclusion that I will need to use command prompt (probably will have to run it as an administrator). Just FYI, I am using windows vista 32bit. How can I delete the folder if its located it

    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\

When I originally run command prompt as an admin It brings up

    C:\Windows\system32>

what do I do from there to delete where my IE is located?

    CD to C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\

    then try these commands
RMDIR - Removes (deletes) a directory.
DEL - Deletes one or more files

use DEL *.* command to delete all files.

Try going to Start -> Control Panel -> Add/remove Programs and then uninstall Internet Explorer 8 from the list.

Ok so I'm finally in the folder for IE, BUT are there suppose to be a list of files? I do not see anything, but in my command prompt it's showing that I'm clearly in

    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer

I tried to use the DEL and RMDIR but it just says invalid syntax.
I'm attaching a picture so you can see what I'm doing if that helps. (note I switched the folder and simply labeled it "a" for convenience). and yes folder "a" was also renamed in Program files

Go to Internet Explorer directory, then issue 'DEL *.*' command.

Just a little warning: Uninstalling Internet Explorer is not easy. It is deeply embedded into system files that are needed to run Windows smoothly.

Thanks for helping. It still won't let me delete them, and I can't find ANYTHING on tech support so I think I'm just going to reboot the OS or at least find the earliest possible recovery date I can find. Not the greatest, especially since I have a lot of info I need to organize and put into a folder or 2 in order to save all my info.
