    Hi all,

I was wondering how to delete my account? There are no options to do so in the Control Panel, and also no other information pertaining to this topic. All help appreciated.

Deleting account is not possible here. Once you created your account, it is yours forever. If you don't like your current username, you can request for username change by paying a small fee : http://forums.digitalpoint.com/payments.php

The thing is I DON'T want another account / a different username. I want to PERMANENTLY DELETE my account, since I don't want to use it anymore, and I don't want accounts of mine hanging around which I don't use.

As earlier said 'we never delete any account' so if you don't want it then just leave it as it is. No need to login again. Thats all.

As others have said, accounts will not be deleted. Anything you've posted already stays live on the site. If you don't want to use the account anymore, just abandon it.

Is it then at least possible to have any details of mine associated with the account that are held removed, i.e. would it be possible for my email address to be removed from the account?

Why do you suddenly want it deleted?

You've been here a few days, and made only 6 posts.

You can change your email address. I don't believe you can delete it.

To make it clear: I want my account deleted (since I've decided this forum isn't for me). At the very least I don't want my email address floating around on a random database, when there is no need for it to be there -- if I were using the forum I can accept the compromise, but if not, then I don't. Yes, I can change my email. But I can't put in an empty email, i.e. delete my email address. If I change it, I still need to confirm the other email, which defeats the point -- i.e. I still need an email address for here so long as my account exists. The vast majority of forum admins would simply delete your account if you asked, but it seems that isn't the case here, which just further increases my desire to leave the forum / not have my address stored here, etc.

Change it to an email address you don't use. If you don't have another email address, you can make one in about 30 seconds.

I doubt Shawn (admin) wants your email address, or is going to use it for anything.

This is a large forum, and admins can't delete users because they've taken a hissy fit.

You can click this link to logout, and don't return ;)

I'm not worried about the admin misusing the email address. I am worried about future security attacks, future changes to default privacy settings etc. I noticed that the default settings were to show your email address. Even though I didn't use my main email, I am still not too impressed. Cracking forum software isn't all too uncommon either. The privacy settings could be changed etc, revealing my junk account, which wouldn't be horrendous, but still annoying. The main issue though is the principle of being able to have your account deleted, as would happen with any sensible site. Even on Facebook you can permanently delete your account (although that is strongly discouraged and hard to find). Seems this isn't the case here. And also, deleting a user isn't a particularly hard thing to do. A few mouse clicks and it's done. Why the great fuss about deleting the account? (BTW in Germany it is in fact a legal requirement for you to delete users if the so wish, which is useful in those cases where etiquette isn't observed. I.e. in Germany I have the right to demand deletion of ALL personal data. It might be worth checking whether similar laws apply in the US/California, where this site is hosted.)

It is a email address- frankly who cares? If you are that worried make a new email address at a free site like gmail and use that, then forget about both accounts. As for most admins being willing to delete accounts- I would say you are wrong about that, I am a forum owner who doesn't delete accounts and I know many others who are the the same way.

The problem with deleting accounts of forums is then your discussions get messed up as your posts disappear.

Set your email to something random and just don't confirm it. Problem solved?

Why did you even register if you want your account deleted?
