I was running a blog using WordPress. I used the export option and exported the data from my blog.. that is.. categories, blog posts, pages n all... and then deleted the blog using Fantastico (Remove). Before deleted I remember that I had seen that fantastico made a backup of my wordpress installation. The reason I am seeking backup is, when I imported the XML file into the new WordPress installation, everything came except for the images. Is there a way I can get the images back? I asked my hosting guys if they take backups of the site.. and they are saying that they will charge $75 to get me data Is there a way to get the images back?
Is this on the same web host? If so, it is rather petty of them to charge an existing client that amount to grab some backup information. To answer your question, there are a couple of ways. If you used a theme, you should be able to locate the theme again and install it. Other ways would be any backups that you may have done could still be located on the server, or, perhaps you have them downloaded to your home computer. You could use things like Google's cache to look for cached copies of your website, then grab the images off of it.
dont you have your own backup ? it is a good practice to have backup of your site. as for checking google cache, it is a good advice. A webhost is not a charity case. In their TOS they probably have mentionned that you are responsible for your backup. For them, it involve works to gather a backup and make it available. So 75$ is not uncommon and fait i think.
if you have backup of your site or if you have old data somewhere look in the upload folders for the wordpress install. Thats where all the images are kept. Most of the install scripts does not delete the upload directory so take look at them and see if you get lucky
