Deleted posts still being crawled by Google

    Hi,

I have a bunch of deleted posts yet they are still crawled by Google and listed under my webmaster's tools as "pages not found", is there a way to stop Google from crawling these posts? Yet not affecting the rest of the site being crawled?

    Thanks

I should image you can also ask google to remove the urls by using the webpage removal request tool. It says the following

"Successful webpage removal requests will show a status of "Removed" and will be excluded from Google search results for 90 days. Successful SafeSearch removals will be excluded from Google SafeSearch results entirely."

They're not still being crawled, but they are still listed. They don't get removed immediately just because you delete them. You have to do a manual delete with Google like was described.

My suggestion would be unless you absolutely have to have that link removed for legal or other purposes, is not to worry about it since it will dissipate on it's own....an incoming link is still possible traffic to the site, even if it goes to a 404 error page, visitors may still navigate to some of your other content.

If you just remove them from the SERP's all together, that's one less possibility to attract readers...one less listing in Google.

Wow you guys are so helpful :) I think I would leave them then, I thought it's bad for SEO.

    Thank you soooo much.

Getting error 404 is much disappointing for a user. so, try to redirect to your home page or to any other.
