Hello guys, Topic says half and the half story is my whm was always showing 95% disk space full warning, when I checked the clients accounts no account was above the quota limit, then when I googles I found this thread --> webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=947629 As User "rghf" told to run 'du -sh /*' , I did and found '/files' folder was filled with 281G files in it, then I did this # cd /files in files: rm -rf / then Enter, then it started showing some errors and everything was getting deleted in background, soon I closed the putty and checked my sites and it shows 'Internal Server Error' and I can't even access to WHM or server thru putty, Please somebody help me recover everything I messed up
You are pretty stuffed if you deleted everything with SSH, only 1 way to get it back is to ask your host if they have a backup, or if you have a backup, if they or you dont then you've got to start all over again and installed cPanel/ WHM etc
Hello there, Just a note, no where in that thread on WHT did they state to run the "rm -f /" command. You have totally wiped your server clean with this command, just like formatting your main hard drive on a Windows system. Was this a VPS or a dedicated server? If it is a VPS, your host may have a backup, if it is a dedicated server, your going to have to start all over again. Hope you have recent off server backups. Chris
Unless you have physical access to the server your pretty much out of luck. You can attempt to run recovery software but its pretty much a lost cause. Guess the lesson is if you dont know what a command is do not blindly execute it on your server...
Ideally, your WHM managing provider should have a backup of the last 7 days with them. Check before its too late to recover.
Hey, Please contact your web host as soon as possible usually they take backup of servers on a weekly basis. Please contact them now before its too late. Altranatively if you have a cpanel backup of your sites, your can ask host to reinstall server and restore from your backups. Hope you get all the data Regards,
