I was wondering if del.ico.us bookmarks and/or other links such as magnolia bookmarks etc. are counted as backlinks and what weightage do they have?

any opinion..i always thought they r counted but i aint sure about this.

    Magnolia has PR7 or Pr8. Delicious is Pr8-Pr9 something..:D

    Hi,

View the source of a page that you want to link on. Find a link that links out of that page i.e. someone elses post with their URL, and see if you can see a rel="nofollow" in the anchor text. No PR will be passed to your site if this is so. It tells the Googlebot not to follow the link. The other thing to check for is if the links are opened by a javascript. If so, Google wont crawl the link and you will get no PR value or link value.

They do count as backlinks on some SE's (e.g. altavista).

I believe all del.icio.us links are nofollow, and purely for traffic.

Most of them are nofollow, so they will not give you direct Search Engine benefits.

I see. Thanks guys for the info. So I guess the only benefit from them is direct traffic, but not SEO.

I've noticed this is very true with social bookmarking sites especially. It seems like a lot of bloggers and other web savvy people are utilizing these sites, so the chances of your link landing on their blog/site is higher than with exposure in other places.
