I know how you feel! I was just ripped off a site. (from sitepoint). The guy sent me the money, I checked paypal and it was there. I then sent the admin info and transfered the domain. He then put in a dispute with paypal to try and get the money back while we were talking on msn. When I asked him what was going on, he said that someone must be hacking into his account. Now he won' t reply at all! The money is frozen and I hope that paypal decides in my favour as he has the site and he already changed everything over. (passwords, nameservers and such). From now on, it will be wire transfers or escrow.

All may not be lost here, although PayPal ruled against you there are other avenues you can explore.

If you both live in the US, you should definitely file a criminal complaint against him, what he did could/should fall under the "Computer Fraud and Abuse Act".

The fraud and abuse act covers a lot of ground but the part of it that applies to you I think would be.

I know a lot of people think "oh it happened online, i have no recourse" but that's not really true, cyber crime is a big issue and many local law enforcement agencies will listen and act on reports of this nature.

This is not directed solely at you, but toward all the people who post on the legal thread with good intentions but without the knowledge to offer good advice.

That is the problem with DP legal section. Many people just chime in with their two cents without a care in the world whether or not their suggestion is legal or will cause the person more problems. Obviously, with free online legal advice you get get exactly what you paid for. But, you should not be offended when someone points out that you have offered poor advice. While your intentions are good, if the advice is not, then the good intentions don't really matter.

I would like the original thread creator to confirm that. The only reason I feel he may have/will return the money is the fact that both are from the same country.

2Dollarpage you are the only one who is lucky to have not been scammed by him I suppose. Cause when I did a search on the internet last month he had scammed a few hundred people.

if the buyer did a credit card transaction with Paypal I would be calling up the cc company asap and file a chargeback! Paypal wont give you the full amount back if there isn't enough money in the sellers account.
It seems everyone thinks "paypal" protects them, however it clearly states "Paypal MAY protect you against fraudulent transactions" the word "may" says it all really :)
