Hi - I am a complete newB to Google Adwords.. and I am in the midst of gathering a lot of info. Quite frankly it is getting very overwhelming at times, with all the info out there, and it seems everyone is out to sell you the info, so its hard to ascertain what the best source is.. which brought me here.. Would anyone be kind enough to share a copy of Perry Marshall's "definitive guide to Adwords", as I heard this would be a great place to start.. Any other suggestions would be welcome, as I am on a shoestring budget.
While the ebook is expensive and grossly outdated (I even sought a refund for it), the word is that the print version is much much cheaper and updated. You may want to look for that.
To be honest, it won't give you much information that isn't on this forum... There are a number of steps to building a successful campaign. Selecting the right keywords Selecting the right match type Grouping them into the right adgroups Writing good adverts Setting your bids at the right level Picking the right landing page Setting up a process of ongoing testing Each of these have been discussed a number of times on this forum, and a number of users have blogs about Adwords as well (ignore mine, it's down at the moment).
Well, if you are looking for a free pay per click resource check this one out. Pay Per Click Reference There are no strings attached.
I've found Perry's resources to be extremely useful in managing Adwords campaigns. But having said that you can pretty much find everything you need to know on forums, blogs and websites, you just need a lot more time. If you place a high value on your time I would recommend just grabbing the book, get some money on your credit card and go for it.
Yes, the Definitive Guide to Google AdWords update was announced around 6.6.2007. Its a very good place to start your training. Bouncing through the many sources of AdWords data on the Internet is not structured and may confuse some. The Adwords learning center is also a pretty good place to start. There you will find videos and text if you prefer for free.
Two concerns with Perry's book. 1. It barely mentions Quality Score 2. It barely mentions Conversion Rate Aren't these things quite important in a 'definitive' guide? I'd suggest that they are the two most important things in your campaign, but he seems to have an addiction to clickthrough rate, only occasionally mentioning that this isn't what you want to be optimising... Oh yes, and much of it IS outdated, particularly the screenshots...
