I've noticed on a lot of the better directories you have the option for deeplinks. In your opinion do you think it's worth paying an extra 10 to 30 dollars for 3 to 5 deeplinks to your site? If a page is PR4 and you get 3 to 5 deeplinks one page down is the value there, or should I spend more money on direct links through other directories?
Both are good.. I dont think someone will charge you more for just 2 extra deep links. (they may come with featured option )
Deeplinks will help your site tremendously... If you have no deeplinks you have to wait for the juice to trickle down from your own homepage. Deeplinks will help it get there a lot faster.
I agree too that deeplinks are worth it, some dont charge a fortune either. On one of my directories i offer a Permanent Regular Listing with 4 deeplinks for only $2, granted its a PR0 directory, but of course future pr will come.
Playing devil's advocate for a moment...no I don't think paying extra for deeplinks using the deeplink module is worth the money. Yes all sites need deeplinks, there is no doubt at all. But that is much better achieved by directories accepting individual submissions of deeplinks in the appropriate category than by grouping them all in a detail page for the main site. As example, assume for a moment I am the BBC website manager, and want to promote sections about News, TV, Sport, Travel and Weather. If they are all simply grouped on a detail page of my main BBC site they are not to be found where directory visitors will find them. But if I can submit my 'News' section to the news category, 'Sports' to the right category, and so on, visitors to the directory will find them where they expect, and the links will be more valuable to me because they are grouped with sites of similar subject. The same principle applies to most large sites submitting deeplinks. Add in the reality that many sites offering these deeplinks don't have enough 'link juice' to get all the detail pages indexed properly, and their value is diminished further - as a minimum, check an existing detail page in the directory and see if it is indexed. I would much sooner see more directories where I can submit individual sections independently of each other to the appropriate section. These directories are harder to find.
This is one reason I don't offer deep links and here is my take on it in an old blog post. This is just my personal opinion and I having nothing against directories that offer deep links.
Deeplinks definitely help. Sometimes your subpages can rank higher than your index page in the SERPs for certain niche keywords.
This is ONLY true if you assume that visitors are drilling down into the category rather than using a search function. To test my theory, I did a search for "Tips for Running a Web Directory" at my directory and it turned up a listing that has exactly that as one of the deep links. IMHO, most visitors will not waste time drilling into categories looking for something when there is a search option available to them. That being said, how could deep links not be worth the money?
It is worth if your detail page is index by search engines. Otherwise it only benefits the directory owner.
I guess he means by them recieving an extra payment. Anyways deep links are a very good thinkg and help with SEO and once in a while I will even click one of them because it catches my eye.
I agree, Deep links is worth it. It will certainly help your directory in more ways than one. Thanks, Meti
