I wanted to start a conversation about deep linking.. it seems to me that it isn't good to have 100% of outside links pointing to your home page.. ok cool I get that.. but what % should point to the home page.. ?
Good question. It seems that linking to only your homepage can work well for your website. The homepage gets the majority of the PageRank, which is distributed through internal linking. However, it seems to make sense that adding deep links to a website would provide a significant improvements. My own experience seems to suggest that this might well be true. I don't think it is a question of percentage pointing to your home page, but more a question of how many links do you need to any one page (including home page) to rank well with your target keyword phrase.
I use my search log files to build a natural pattern to innner pages and then I deep link using www.receivelinks.com
Where we can else put our deep links ? Some directories allow deep linking, we can use article sites but where else ?
what % of people link to wikipedia's home page? what % link directly to an article on wikipedia? you're answer is somewhere in there.
I lot of directories allow it now, but some (like mine) only allow it for featured listings. I think that top listings on a page with related content deeplinking to the most content related page on your site is what works the best.
