<rant> I received a submission today @ LinkBook.org for a Standard Listing which offers 5 optional links to individual pages within the site. I logged in to review the submission only to find that they submitted five separate sites for the optional deeplinks. I mean, what gives? I thought it was clear enough in the submission guidelines: Standard Listings offer optional 5 links to individual pages within the site. The above doesn't suggest you can submit 5 different sites as the optional links. I thought this was a given. </rant> Ok, rant over. So what I'd like to know is if you receive/make these types of submissions? Do any directory owners actually approved submissions which include links to multiple sites? Was this a genuine submission? Did they really expect that the submission would be approved? I mean they took the time to submit the listing and pay the submission fee...
I usually edit mistakes, and approve the link. So far I have received no complaints which tells me that submitters do know, still, most of them try to sneak in a few extra things. Although, nobody ever tried to sneak in a few extra sites.
Not received any till yet I think no body would do that. May be yes.. I have seen a directory showing the demo of what are deeplinks next to submission box. Forgot - Will search..
Would just have to delete the submission as it is not a genuine and valid submission.. They should know the meaning of deep links before they submit.
Hey CReed and guys, I actually got a few people who submitted to Add-URL-Directory and given me only 1 title and 1 link when they were told that (and given the boxes to fill up) 3 more deep links. So things like these does happens sometimes you just laugh over it. Heahehaeh...
Actually my editors adds the deeplinks for them then sometimes sends them an e-mail. The success with that is that they've comeback for more submissions and with the other of my directories too. Right now there is some pending submissions and a couple of them has no deeplinks.
it could be genuine or may be not - difficult to say - but if they have paid and the site meets your guidelines, you can edit the deeplinks to their original site and approve their listing - just my 2 cents
Not surprised.. Do you think they use any software to submit??? or auto fill form that does the "traditional" 1 link only form.. Hmmm... Maybe Rob can modify the mod to request those deeplinks as compulsory for the form to be accepted... Rob, this is your call. Allan
And why doesn't the submission script check the urls to ensure they are on the domain, or even better a deeper directory structure than the main url?
actually I prefer to post on directories with the deep links placed at the bottom of the description. is there any Seo value in those (Rob style) deep link placed on another page?
It wasn't requested. I never imagined it to be a problem, so it wasn't a consideration; but thanks for your suggestion.
Right Creed ! That's why eWebPages is DMOZ listed and the term Human Edited. DMOZ listed RJ Link Directory (shameless plug in)
Having just worked within the deep link mod for the past few hours, I can tell you it shouldn't be too hard to implement checking of the URL's. I just added a whole new set of fields for people to add descriptions with their deep links, you can see it in action here: Deep Link Descriptions.
Agreed... Adding descriptions to the inner details is definatly going to help any and all directories as well as the submitter with PR gains... As can be seen here at BIZ-KING Directory it has been implemnted and people will use this as they know and understand the value it will bring thier pages. EX: is here Deep Link Descriptions. Very nice work ...silk im sure the others will soon be wanting the code for this new Deep Link Description Add-on thx malcolm
Creed and I spoke about this last night, and it can be done if requested, but to each his own on the deep links, where some will allow it and others won't. Big difference between a qbc and a real quality oriented human-edited directory like creed represents. We had also spoke about the descriptions as well a few months back, but figured not many would submit, so I didn't add it. I have all of this already implemented, but only on request would I add it. meh, no biggie.
Yip i agree an0n if it wasnt for your deep link chances are that the industy wouldnt be moving forward.... we just complimented your work nothing more.... But content definatly helps any directory Kudos to you thx malcolm
I think that while sometimes this happens out of true error, often people choose *purposely* to mis-understand your instructions. I used to have in my submission instructions something like: "You may submit your site to multiple categories (if the categories are appropriate)." Many people chose to interpret this to mean that for one submission fee they were entitled to list the same site in many categories and would get upset with me when I didn't allow this. I kept re-writing this statement to make it clearer and clearer and still had the same problem. Finally, I just deleted it altogether. The problem is that there is a reward if people succeed in pushing the boundaries, but there is really no penalty for pushing too hard. So, many people will try to push and see what they can get away with.
Well, This proves (yet another time) that not many people read Guidelines. There are two kind of people: 1) People who don't really get the meaning of "deep links" so they just see the "Title, URL" and want to submit anything they can think of. 2) Who knows very well what they are doing but hope their link might be able to slip from the editor's eye. (Need to teach them something) Everyone wants to get "More" with spending "Less' so you can expect more such submissions. I got one submission the other day when someone "tried" to add "url" in the description. We cant really do something to those. (Unless there is some "Spank Mod" coming out )
