Have you used dedicated servers at 1and1 or godaddy? are they any good? is the uptime good? i am looking for something that will not have my site offline every other day. Something i can count on to be online 24/7.
Try GreenLush.com. I have a VPS with them and I never ever see downtime. Used GoDaddy and 1&1 who were both less than perfect!!
I love HostRocket - I intend to move to a few dedicated servers from them. Been a customer for 2 years, GREAT support (usually respond within an hour, and have ADVANCED support aswell). Great uptime, great price.
I've been administering a couple of own servers at godaddy and others for some of my customers, no issues so far, well nothing unmanageable.
preferredservers.com excellent. owned by tmg-corporation.com My personal sites.. many others as well. TJ
I had one simple issue with 1&1, I spent much time on the phone trying to get a live person. When I got someone, it took 10 times to explain the problem until he understood. Then he said, "Aren't you done yet?" Just my experience...
I have an shared hosting account with 1and1.com and have the same problem. I would call and get somoene on the phone that i cant understand, explain everything to them and they have no clue what i'm talking about. Their answer always is we will have our engineers look at this problem and fix it. I'll get no answer when it will be fix, why it doesnt work. Right now i have a dedicated server which i pay $150/month but it seems like its down every day for like 10 min.
i have never tried both of them due to bad reputation I have heard. maybe you should onsider other providers.
I am using a company called WiredTree. Sort of a new company, but that does not matter, excellent pricing, SUCH FAST customer service response, ticket response time was under 20 min on all occasions, and then once they anwsered i got pretty much instant replkies to my e-mails until the problem /. question was answered. i purchased what i think is caled the hybrid at 139.99 a month and it will perfect for many medium sites. The lowest they offer is VPS for 49 or 39 a month im not sure, high end servers also avail. and warning :: stay away from ipowerweb! horrible price, horrible server, bad downtime probvlems, slow to fix them as well. wost experience ever encountered.
