Hi ladies and gents I was searching the phrase SEO and noticed one or two in this coveted position had their sites hosted on dedicated servers. Does this really help? Is it worth the extra cost?
How did you found they were on a dedicated server ? Is it because their was only one site on the ip adress ? If so, an ip cost 2-3$ per month. A VPS is just like a a dedicated server and can cost anywhere from 10$ to 150$ per month. A dedicated server can cost anything from 60$ to no limit per month. I dont believe it can help SEO wise, just because the contrary cannot harm.
Dedicated servers give access to a class A IP address, I understand that this is helpful in terms of SEO.
Is the opposite of a dedicated server bad for SEO? Are the hosts that offer "unlimited" numbers of sites for a flat fee bad for your rankings?
You can't tell if it's a dedicated server by IP address. I've got numerous dedicated IP's all on one server. All you need, if you're concerned about it, is a dedicated IP address from your hosting company. It'll likely cost you a couple of bucks a month. You only need a dedicated server if your current server can't handle the load - not because you want a dedicated IP. Personally, I don't think that a dedicated IP is really that big of a deal anymore either. I've got oodles of sites on the same IP's and rank competitively without problems.
There's Class A, Class B, Class C Ip's, and even more. Class A is the main IP a server runs on. Under the main IP address you are allotted other ip's to use for different sites. The class of IP usually tell search engines how big the organization is. Read more about it here... http://www.tcpipguide.com/free/t_IPClassfulAddressingOverviewandAddressClasses.htm . These usually look like this... 23.122.432.21 -- class A 23.122.432.22 -- class B 23.122.432.23 -- class C 23.122.432.24 -- class C 23.122.432.25 -- class C 23.122.432.25 -- class C I suppose a site is considered more serious by search engines if they run off the class A or B ip's.
OK Mr Spok Does that mean I will get higher serps than the Klingons? I am not as clever as you...but I seem to read that as a Yes
