Hi, I'm going to purchase a dedicated server for 1 of my business right now. And had a couple of provider that fill my need. But I'm just wondering about these 2 thing: 1. Uplink port. I have an options between 10MBps and 100MBps port uplink. Does this make a different in term of download speed? 2. Management. Also had 2 options. APC power reboot and APC + KVM over IP. Just want to know what are the differences between these 2? Thanks. Your answers is really appreciated.
Hi there 1_ Yes it`ll have effect on download speed. 100MBps is always better. But check it if it is shared or dedicated line, if it is dedicated 100MBps line then it`ll be expensive. 100 Mbps means 100 Mega bits per second.its the transfer rate of the data.it is 100X1000000 bits per second. So basically if you get a 100 mbps line to its limit you'll get 33480 Gigabytes of Bandwith(But its almost impossible to get this) 2_ With apc you can shut down your server from power(power on when you need also ) and with kvm you can reboot your server whenever you want. Kvm is a must have if you want to have control on your server reboot and dont want to request reboots from your provider in case something goes wrong or you need a reboot for a reason. Best Regards
I always perfer a complete or atleast semi-managed server. It does cost a bit more, but usually, the managed server provider will also include some freebies. Usually with a managed solution, also comes a monitoring service, which is very usefull. As for your questions, I prefer a 100mbs port on all my server. Download speed is just better.
