    Hi boys and girls,

I'm setting up a website for a client - no problem that is what I do. However they have also put me in charge of their web server.
This is a linux setup, something I'm not too familiar with, with Apache running the web service.

I've got the web service running and I can see the Apache 'holding' page when I pull up the IP address in a browser. So now I wanna start popping files into the apache htdocs directory (or whatever it is).

Problem is that when I login to Linux I don't see this directory! I know apache is installed and running on the server somewhere, but how do i get to it?

If it helps Fasthosts (www.fasthosts.co.uk) is the server company.

Much appreciated guys as I am stuck right now....

    Mike

    Ok,

having hunted around I've found a way into the var/www/html directory

But what I really want to do is to have FTP access to a sub directory in here. I've got my FTP server running and I can connect to it, but it's not showing any directory structure or files.

Anhy ideas on how to setup this so that I can login to a subdir of the apache directory?

Depends on which FTP server you run but you'll probably have to chroot the user's home folder and stuff like that. Took me ages to figure out so I'd recommend 1. finding out which FTP software is running on your server (like VSFTP) and 2. studying that software's documentation.

I just had this issue the other day. I just pointed my ftp software at www.mysite.com and used my username and password and arrived at the right directory.
