Dedicated Server - Is this a good deal?

Dedicated Server - do people think this is a good deal?

    Specs:
    memory 4 GB DDR2-667 ECC/Reg.
    transfer 1000GB/mo
    processor 2 x Intel E5420 (8 x 2.5GHZ cores)
    drives 2 x 500GB SATA2
    network card 2 x 10/100/1000
    RAID 3ware 9650-2LP RAID 1

    Network Uptime Guarantee 99.9%
    Burstable Bandwidth Yes
    Remote Reboot Port Yes
    Free Port Monitoring Yes
    MRTG Graphing Yes

The amount of transfer in this package should safely take care of your site and mailing campaigns. You could consider less to begin with. The issue may be the bandwidth and we may have to 'throttle' your email campaigns so that you don't exceed the burstable limit.

Exactly how much throughput you are currently using is hard to say. In terms of email it appears as though your typical campaign is about .5GB each time you send. There's a lot more to consider than just the campaigns, as they pull data from the server each time a newsletter is viewed.

    Cost:
    Setup: $700.00
    Monthly: $500.00

The monthly fee includes all essential monitoring of services. Should you require service, upgrades, etc. there is an hourly fee of $65.00 charged.

The monthly fee must be provided with a CC, either VISA or MC.

    Thanks!
    Shawn

    Hello,

At $500 per month, and $700 setup, definitely not. Check out SoftLayer for a specification like that with no (or small) setup and a lower monthly fee. Is there any specific reason you chose this company (mass mailing perhaps)?

    $700.00 setup?

Is that even possible? I mean really you carry a slightly large box to a rack, put it in, plugin a few cables and turn it on...

It's really not that difficult, free to < $50.00 installations are what you should aim for

for that price with only 1000gb of bandwidth, definatly not a good deal.

Softlayer is a good suggestion as previously made.

Not a really good deal, if you're looking for a managed server you should look at liquidweb.com or wiredtree.com

Thanks so far everybody! The set up fee involves moving a site that has quite a bit of data in the backend, so the set up may be quite a bit of work to be honest.

For the monthly fee - what do you think would be a fair price for what we would be getting?

Increasing the amount of bandwidth might be a good idea as it seems a bit silly having HD & bandwidth the same.

    Normally bandwidth is more.

I honestly doubt it would take more than a few days to move sites, unless they are terabytes in size. It's not that much work, truthfully. $700 setup would be them doing some amazing things, can you elaborate on anything else about the setup cost?

The monthly fee is hard to say as it depends where you go, but even SoftLayer would be cheaper.

500$ a month is a horrible deal. Based on the specifications i wouldn't pay more than 200$ a month for that server. Shop around you can find much better deals.
