Dedicated Server? First Time Buyer

    Hey Guys-

First off, if this in the wrong section, I apologize, it just seemed like the best area for the questions that I have regarding a server.

Anywho, I'm looking to open a website for a specific niche of videos and I know that this is going to be eating alot of bandwidth and system resources that more than likely just won't fall under a shared hosting package.

I have found the vShare youtube clone style script and I'm thinking of purchasing it tomorrow but it has the following requirements:

    MySQL (version 4 or higher)
    PHP (version 4.x)
    Fmpeg (http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu)
    FFmpeg-PHP (http://ffmpeg-php.sourceforge.net)
    Mplayer + Mencoder (http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html)
    flv2tool (http://inlet-media.de/flvtool2)
    Libogg + Libvorbis (http://www.xiph.org/downloads)
    LAME MP3 Encoder (http://lame.sourceforge.net)

I currently have hostgator.com hosting and it works great, but I know that PHP/MySQL is about the only things out of that list that are installed.

My basic question is this; Does buying a dedicated server allow me to install the necessary applications above to run the script? If so, what do you think I would need as a dedicated server? GoDaddy.com has some servers for about 100 dollars a month running a Pentium 4, Fedora Core 4, 500gb Bandwidth, 1gb ram, and 120gb hard drive. Is this a good deal?

Thanks for all the help - I'm very familiar with setting up servers, working with servers, but this is the first time trying to purchase a dedicated server so I'm not sure of what my limits are.

    -N

Your 1st mistake is keeping hostgator.
I had semi dedicated and then they said I had to upgrade.

I did even tho I know i didnt need to, but I wanted my sites up.
They took 4 days to get my sites up after upgrade and then a week later when they couldnt get it fixed right they got mad, called me up and told me to go somewhere else.

I had been costumer for over 2 years and they just grew to fast and dont know what they are doing anymore.

DONT USE HOSTGATOR FOR HOSTING OF ANY KIND!!

I would stay away from godaddy as well.
My only concern would be the pentium4 , since you're pumping out videos, a dual processor would be more beneficial.

And, yes when you have a dedicated server, you can pretty much install anything you like.

Instead of blaming HG, why the hell for did you use their shared hosting for resource hungry apps?
