Does anyone have an opinion on having a dedicated IP for your directory or not. Does it matter? Does it make a difference if it's on a share IP?
it does`nt really matter as long as the sites are promoted well although from a marketing point of view i would recommend it all my directories are on there own dedicated c-class ip address
I am using shared hosting for my directories but each of them are with different C-Class IPs and different hosting accounts.
i have to agree with shenron here. Just as long as you don't put your directories in the same ip, then it's ok.
Unless you have many directories, cross-linking to each other, up to 10 or 15 on a same IP won't hurt. class C IP has no SEO advantage as the myth claims. This was discussed so many times in this forum. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3583760678227172395
Sorry to bump an old thread ... Was looking for similar issue when I found this thread and thought to ask your opinion.... (Once again) How many of you actually have dedicated IP for directory just for the sake of SEO benefit?? What difference it makes if you are on shared host?? Do you really see any difference in hosting your directory with some shared host that might have 40-50 other directories on the same server??? Is that going to cause any problem ??
Separate ip's is a myth and those offering seprate dedicated ips to website without justification are not abiding my Arin's ip justification policy . http://forum.iweb.ca/en/viewtopic.php?p=581& And i doubt Arin justifies use of dedicated ip just for a website or single directory. I am sure other webhosting companies are aware of these policies too but are blindly not following the guidelines. But eventually 1 day Arin will catch up with such companies. and remember separate ip for website is a myth in terms of seoing. No solid proof has been presented or atleast i have not seen any.
Well, I believe that too... But it seems that more directory owners think the other way ... If you search of DedicatedIP, you will find some interesting threads here.... And now with HG introducing SEOhosting (which is going to get hit sooner or later) it's real easy to have multiple IP's for your directory.... So why not use them till ARIN hits you (or your host) ??
Oh i had discussion with another known member here and a good webhosting company , and just like myself user also asks for justification of ip's than i told him how come hostgator and other big fat hosting companies offer free dedicated ip without any justification. His reply was " they will get whats coming to them soon enough " and i couldn't agree more and my discussion was over !!
Still waiting to other users thoughts Also, when people talk about benefits of having an IP, is it just a Dedicated IP or is it a different C-Class IP? Not to mention, there are multiple definitions of "C-Class IP"
For my directories, I have separate IP's. I don't see any benefits by dedicated IP's but I added just for client attraction
The whole separate IP hoopla is all out BS. I do have a dedicated server as well as shared hosting though, but that was due to a script being resource intensive.
I use dedicate IP's because submitters often want different IP's on each directory & what's the worst that can happen by getting unique IP's? Geez you can get 10 dedicated IP's for just $5 a month anyway
I think e dedicated IP is very important because if you have just one shared it may be used by spammers also who have a hosting account near you and there also a lot of problems with shared IP's, so better have a dedicated server and dedicated IP's
think the concept of dedicated IP is the same whether you own directories or any other website. Don't think there is any difference in the decision process.
