Dedicated Hosting - Pointing domains.

Hello. I just rented a dedicated server. When it was setup, it wasn't setup with a pointed domain. I have a domain purchased and ready to point.

My Datacenter, didn't give me any NS1.mydomain.com nameservers.. just DNS 1 and DNS 2 ip's.

I'm not familiar with setting up domain pointing (I am using Webmin) domains to my server.

Is anyone able to help point me in the right direction?

You are going to have to go into your Bind configuration for your domain, and set up your custom nameservers. Are you also using the virtualmin plugin for Webmin?

Easier if you just contact your domain name registrar and get name server details from them.

I just went to the everydns website. I set up the domains there matching my IP and set my httpd.conf files to accept those domains as virtual domains (VirtualHost.)

I am waiting for the domains to propogate. Hopefully it works. If it's not going to work let me know.

I might sound ignorant, but to be honest I figured when I purchased this server is was going to be managed like other servers I have. Unfortunately this is what I was stuck with now.

What do I need to do in order to register the nameservers?
Should I have done this when I registered the domain or is it something I can still fix.

You first need to register your nameservers to connect them with your IP addresses (at your registrar), THEN you need to change your nameservers to the new ones.

Hey thanks. That's what I needed. I didn't know if I needed to set that up on my end. I use Webmin though, opposed to Simple Control Panel. I have found documentation for that.

Yeah, so I just got an email from the host. They said, that if I just go to the domain registrar and set it up the domain in the totalDns: as my IP (the A range).

If it's that simple, I'm going to do it. Please advise.

So I came up with a resolution.
    I installed Apache, Php, etc.
I switched the A to our site.
I pointed all my domains to one general IP.
I wrote a PHP script on the main index of my IP to direct the site(s) to their appropriate places.

Thanks to all who helped in my resolution of this issue. Green boxes for everyone.

You're correct. I end up having to figure out a way to handle subdomains - including the www. kind. :p
