Do you find your SERPs are changed due to geo hosting factors. My site is hosted in Europe and it's up for uk.search but way down in general serch?
Yahoo doesn't send most of my web sites any appreciable amount of traffic. I'm a Google kid. However, Yahoo seems to have fallen in love with one of my web sites, Buying and Selling on eBay. This months numbers show: Direct address / Bookmarks 1,668 Links from an Internet Search Engine: - Yahoo 988 - MSN 140 - Unknown search engines 30 - Overture 27 - AltaVista 15 - Google 10 - Mamma 7 - InfoSpace 6 - Dogpile 4 - AllTheWeb 3 - Others 5 Another site, The Java FAQ which I have SEO'd almost identically shows a completely different pattern: Direct address / Bookmarks 149 Links from an Internet Search Engine: - Google 152 152 - MSN 8 8 This is a complete mystery to me. I would very much appreciate any insight which the brilliant SEOs on this forum might be able to shed on this set of phenomena.
OK.. perhaps not almost identically. The site preferred by Google (JF): Was registered February 11, 2005 (Perhaps Yahoo is slow?) Uses two levels of menus (Perhaps Google prefers fewer links per page?) Has more pages of content (Perhaps Google prefers sites with more pages?) Competes for less competitive keywords The site preferred by Yahoo (BaSoE): Was registered December 27, 2004 Uses a single level menu (Perhaps Yahoo prefers more internal linking?) Has fewer pages of content (Perhaps Yahoo doesn't care about page count?) Was submitted to more directories (the vilesilencer list) Has more deep links from my other sites (Perhaps Yahoo is more sensitive to anchor text?) Competes for much more competitive keywords I'm not sure what this all teaches me. I added a sitemap to the Java FAQ just now, because it has two-level menus. I will improve the deep keyword-rich links from my other sites. I should add more content, but I am not currently working on either of these projects. I am currently building content about satellite technology.
Another Yahoo oddity happened to a different ones of my sites last month. This site received about 98% of its traffic from Google Images, and then suddenly Yahoo started sending it (relatively) massive traffic. It stopped as suddenly as it started. Unique visitor count: 27 Mar 2005: 1,274 28 Mar 2005: 2,270 29 Mar 2005: 13,208 30 Mar 2005: 1,560 It seems as if Yahoo applies layers of algorithms to its SERPS. It seems as if one part of the Yahoo algorithm liked that web site and another part of the Yahoo algorithm hates that same web site. Probably an on-page spam filter. That web site was pretty spammy.
Well the site I originally started this topic about was www.medical-insurance-source.com. It has been between #1-3 for the term "medical insurance" for the past 6 months. Then in the last update (Friday April 8), it dropped to #12, but in the #1-10 spots are 5 sites that all redirect to the same thing.
The same sites are showing in other competitive terms like auto insurance, car insurance, and health insurance as well as variations of the terms. I haven;t checked every possible combonation, but I have looked at around 40 insurance related terms.
Will Have you done any research as to how many searches are done for your targeted kw's on each site on yahoo? Have you check to see how competitive each of them are? If site 1 is less competitive and searched alot on yahoo, this would tell you why it gets good traffic from it. If site 2 got very less searches in yahoo and had more competitors then that would explain why it doesn't get the hits from yahoo. Another thing to consider is age, and BL's for each site. There are so many factors to consider when comparing two seperate sites it would be very hard to narrow down an exact reason.
I got hit by Yahoo pretty hard as well. My site used to be at the top of the 2nd page and now I'm down to 5th page!
i disappear from the search results for competitive keywords ( out of 4 millions ). I was first page ranking. Also, my indexed pages are all gone. now, only the website is indexed. all others pages disappears ( over 30K pages). no changes on my end. Yahoo slurp visits daily as usual. no idea what's going...but it seems yahoo made some changes on March 31,05. here is details. http://www.ysearchblog.com/archives/000095.html
Are you checking on yahoo for your search terms? Or just looking at the tracker results? Yahoo has been using "tracking URL's" lately and on a #2 serps positions DP tracking was showing 181 since it does not recognize the yahoo tracking URL as mine, rightly so, but it is my site at #2. I hope this made sense to you, but basically what I am saying is go to yahoo and double check your results manually.
Hello, I am webmaster and i noticed one big problem with my site. My site not listed within yahoo. Why? I am on 15 rank on google for my main keyword. Why yahoo crawler is so tuff and why he is not crawling my other pages. Help me. Rock. http://forum.theispdirectory.com
Hello debunked i checked the result at yahoo manually for ranking. and check "site:xxx.com" for indexded page. yahoo is certainly implementing some changes..
