Decline in CTR & eCPM, do you notice

    Hi everybody,

on 15 November, google restricted the clickable area of ads, claiming that it lowers accidential clicks [ http://adsense.blogspot.com/2007/11/accidental-clicks-fade-into-background.html ]

Did you notice any improvement in your earning / CTR & eCPM ?

My CTR / eCPM and earning all goes down together, wondering what should I do to optimize now.

    your feedbacks would be appreciated.

    Regards,

    Najam

My CTR and eCPM are both about the same as always.

In my opinion this was a good move by Google and this is the way the ads should have been set up from the beginning. Theoretically this will reduce the chances of a site being smartpriced

It is funny, those on this thread who think it is a good move have not been affected (CTR-wise)... ;-)

I think it is good... but I have been affected... CRT is down 50-70% on some ads. Mostly my 336x280 ads are performing awful. I may switch those to another size.

No need to panic, just time to re-tweak everything...;-)

    The show must go on...

That explains why my CTR halved overnight on the 12th then

Interestingly my CPM has now recovered to the level before the changes but with far fewer clicks. Swings and roundabouts I guess!

    Cheers

Hmmm. Perhaps I should hold off on changing my ad formats... give G time to normalize the changes on my site.

My earnings have gone up in the last couple of days. I doubt it is from the new ad areas.

If your CTR and eCPM have dropped after this change then you should consider whether or not you have been getting by on accidental clicks up to this point. I would be very curious to see sites where these numbers have dropped just to see if that is the case. My numbers have not dropped at all and are right around the average they have been for awhile.

I have read some cases and found that some of the ad units are still displayed in the way they were used to. means no clickable area restriction, I am going to try different ad unit!.
