Must admit I was a bit surprised you closed this thread. Seems unreasonable that you would close such a valuable thread for the community due to a few bad apples. Why not warn/ban members doing the wrong thing, instead of closing the thread?
Imagine the amount of effort to moderate and vet each code. Mods are volunteers (i.e. unpaid) who give their time for free. It seems unreasonable to expect them to spend time to verify each code. Neither they are DP make anything from it. At the end of the day, this is a forum for SEOs, site owners, affiliates, Internet marketers, etc, so there will always be more than a "few bad apples" to deal with. On one hand it sucks as they can be genuinely useful, but I can understand why a site would want to disallow it. It reminds me of the social bookmarking situation.
Regarding the codes with an affiliate attached to the code. How does that work? Must you click on a link or can there be aff codes? I ask because if it must be a link then it was hardly much of an issue in that thread.
There is no link, just a code... And no way to tell which were generated affiliate codes and which ones weren't.
Yeah, that is one thread that always seemed valuable to me too. I wish their was a way to distinguish the aff codes from the GD ones. Perhaps the better course would have just been to allow any and all codes to be posted on that thread. I think on balance letting a few aff codes in is less harmful than doing away with the thread all together. At least that would be my preference.
That is the only thread of vouchers section in which i was replying and also used & shared many codes. If you can please reopen this valuable thread.
As I understand it is possible to distinguish the affiliate godaddy codes from the normal ones. All you have to do is to check if the word "WOW" appears in the coupon code or not. If it does it must be an affiliate code if it doesn't then it must be a normal code. It is pretty easy as I see it. As for the reasons given by sarahk in that closing post : "many codes are issued for a single recipient and can't be shared" I have been using godaddy codes for about four years now and haven't come across any codes which were for "single recipients". Godaddy does restrict the offers for geographical locations. FOr example many offers work for USA/Canada but don't work for rest of the world. But they never issue codes for single recipients. "many codes are linked to affiliate accounts" That's the job of the moderators to identify and delete such posts which break forum rules. @sarahk I think you are good moderator but your decision to close godaddy coupon thread is wrong. If your reasoning is considered correct then according to this logic Shawn should close the whole forum because people try to post spam and misuse everything.
I know at least two of the DP staff talked to Godaddy support. We both received the same answer that it is impossible to tell user generated codes from Godaddy codes. I specifically asked about your "WOW" claim and they reiterated this was not the case.
