Deceiving subject lines in email

A few days ago I got an email with the subject line, "Congratulations! You received payment."

But the message was an invitation to join a program under the sender. I emailed him and pointed out that his subject line was deceiving. He wrote back and told me to stop complaining and, in effect, told me to f**k off and than he removed me from his list.

How about that? Talk about professionalism.

That is very rude indeed, he could use a better subject than that one and get better responses to his offer.

Indeed. The subject line actually showed desperation, not to mention disrespect for his subscribers. It also shows laziness in considering a more honestly compelling subject line.

Perhaps it's partly my fault for opting in to a list without giving much thought to who was asking for my email address. Lesson learned.

If the list is not a one that you want to read then I suggest you use a separate email address just for opt-in forms, I usually put them there and don't bother to open it.
