I wan't to see what people actually believe. If your just going to say yes or no then just don't post. I want discussion on this. There are many pluses and negatives for having phones in school. What are your thoughts?

I believe that cell phones should be allowed in school. I don't totally agree with having them in class, but you should be able to use them out of class. One reason is because i think that if a teen needs to get a hold of parents, this would be the fastest and easiest way. I mean isn't that why parents get there kids cell phones in the first place. I know that cheating in school can go on and disruption in class while texting. But some schools have banned phones all together. I think that you should be able to have your phone in between classes to make calls for plans and appointments. Sports are a big factor with phones too. What if you forgot something at home and you needed a parent to bring it to you. Some offices won't even let you use the phones. Or they will but it takes too much time with a ton of people doing it at once.

I recently finished high school, and i do believe they shouldn't be allowed, they distract the person who owns the phone, texting under the desk..not listening to the tutor. It happened alot. However, possibly just have some kind of place where there is phone access, like in the secretary office, if there in real need of getting in contact of there parents.

very good reasons. Yes it did happen a lot. People would text underneath the desk which would prevent them from learning. You are totally right.

Well then if you put it on silent... they could still be texting and what not and not paying attention to the teachers.. So i guess this can go either way.

I barely ever used my cell phone in school, and I didn't pay attention to the teachers anyways xD

I don't think that wasn't really the main argument they were using for outlawing them in schools. I believe people were using the camera on their phone to send people test answers and stuff. Blackberry is already acting against that with this bloody shutter noise it won't let me turn off.. </3.

I think it all depends on the student and not the phone. Thats my opinion.

it's allowed in my school with one rule. if they make a sound you are thrown out of class... you are allowed to SMS or do whatever you want otherwise aslong as the sound if OFF. if this that is both good and fair.

yeah my school has a policy where.. if the teacher sees it they get to take it away for 1 week. Once you get it back and they see you with it out in the classroom then it gets taken for a month. It is really not fair how they do this. Some people need phones out of school.

Well for me yes. There are some unexpected happenings that requires immediate action so allowing cellphone is okay. However, it should be moderated and should always be turned in to silent if not necessarily needed.

No!! I think kids have more important things to do and a cell phone would just be another distraction. They need to focus on learning.
