I just need a place to vent really, but anyway heres the story. Basically was hired to do a clients site. He paid upfront and Im pretty skeptical about that when it comes to situations like this. Well during the time, we had really bad storms, tornadoes etc and knocked some power lines, thus not making be available online to show him progress. Times where I could get on, i let him know and that i told him i'll show him updates on the site and what not. Well, in terms of that, he changed the logins on me so i could upload for him for preview, so what am I suppose to think? That he didnt want it anymore. So, i scrapped the design. He later emailed me askin for banners in exchange of it, i said okay. Again, all of this was in the timeframe of the bad storm, i started on those, again couldnt contact him all that much and always updated him. The times i wanted to show him previews, i couldnt because i couldnt get online. He later just asked me to install a SSL Certificate on his site, and he's hosted with Yahoo.com Knowing they dont have a WHM to do it that way, i couldnt get it and i've tried for hours to manually do it. Couldnt do it as i didnt have root access. With all that said, i told him i'd refund him his money, but needed some form of compensation of my time issued to these projects. He opened a dispute saying nothing was done, when i clearly have the site to show what work i've done to it. And now he's sayin he wants a FULL refund. Im not sure what I can do, but theres a hold now on my account because of his childish tantics and not appreciating what some people do for one another in terms of really trying to help them. So what really can I do, to get some form of compensation out of it? He basically did a chargeback/dispute on me for no reason as I tried my best to satisfied the client. Sigh...things we do for clientel. *NOTE* Not a DP'r So no worries.
Are we talking about PayPal here? There is no doubt that you should be entitled to payment for your time investment. Too many people think others should work for free until they decide to pay - unfortunately, business in the real world doesn't work like that. What I would do if I were you is initially try making contact with the other party. Steer clear of threats and 'heavy' talk, and try to focus on coming to some mutually agreeable conclusion. Explain to him that you have invested time and effort into the project, and that you would like some remuneration for that - at the end of the day, he decided not to proceed with the project that you had already worked on. If you don't get any response, fight it all the way. If you work for someone, you are entitled to be paid for your time.
Did you keep records of all your correspondance? If you did, lay out to him ' I contacted you Via email on the 10th, and twice on the 13th...' and explain how you feel you have done your best to keep him informed. Work out how much you did - if you haven't finished the project, you can't ask for all the money, but you can try to get compensated for however much work you have done. I hope you get it sorted out.
Yea, doesnt look like it right now and yes its a dispute with Paypal. Clearly what he wrote: As stated there, he's angry and theres not much I can do when I tried my best to fufill his wishes. I'll shall wait and see what else he has to say later today.
This is why you need to be careful when working with noobs. They have no respect for how much time something takes to do or how hard it is to do. They just want it done their way and on their schedule. Best of luck to you!
UPDATE Got the dispute closed as well we met a mutual agreement. Everything is good and will have everything planned out and documentated before any work or funds is dispersed. Thanks.
