Dealing with link removal requests?

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by Anveto, Feb 8, 2014.

Every once in a while I may get an email like the following, usually in regards to a guest post on one of my blogs.

Does this email seem to be legit?

Or is it a way of trying to get competitors to lose rankings by loss of links?

    What would you do?

    Thanks for the help!

99% chance its real. You guest poster got penalized and is now going through a process of removing links. Google likes to see that manual effort was taken to get the links removed before the disavov tool was used. Hence your email.

I highly doubt its competition trying to get someone link loss. There's way more effective ways to remove competition through negative SEO (which I won't even mention how to do because I think its repulsive.).

Recently Google Updates that Getting backlinks from Guest Posting will not gonna help any one and getting backlinnks from Third tier Blog or Website may cause a penalization to their Website , So, they are requesting to do that. If you Don't want to remove that Just mark those as "rel=nofollow"

Thanks for the feedback! I have always removed links in the past but decided to do some research before I kept doing this, just in case :)

Yes. It's normal if you allow guest blogging... According to me, you should STOP doing this, do not post other links in blogs because after the last updates it's considered as a BAD backlink! ;)

Thanks for the tip. I actually stopped accepting guest posts as I wanted to create stricter rules for what could be posted. However I always read guest posts that I posted to make sure they were of good quality. Hopefully I can motivate myself to write more and only accept guest posts from real people and friends where linking is not the priority of the post.

Yes, this email seems to be legit as the person behind this email is been penalized by the Google and he seems to be deleting all the bad back links. I will also tell you that if he submits the disavow file and you're name is on that lists your ranking is also going to get down !! So, i would suggest to better look at this email seriously, I don't think anyone will lie in this case as from the attached mail i can see he is going through the pain of loosing the traffic.

Any valid proofs to back up this statement ?!

It's usually better to just remove the link. It won't affect your site, but it will help others. I don't think "competitors" would take the time to go to your website and ask you to remove links.

Yes of course it's real. Sorry! But it's time to get these links removed. It will help you and him in the long run. Plus, you then aren't losing pagerank to sites that don't even want to be linked to.

    It's really a win win.

And you guys wouldn't even be a little suspicious if all of these emails regarding different websites used the same email and name to contact me? :) 4 different sites with links on different pages on my site

I would not be. Link removals need to happen with Google's algo changes. Sounds like a service provider is using the same email address for multiple clients. Do you think he's trying to scam 4 different sites by asking links to be removed? I have never heard of that.
