It all comes down to social media outlets like Facebook and X, which was formerly Twitter. People are so lazy now, they want everything in the one place, making forums somewhat redundant. I'm personally not a fan of the layout of such platforms, nor do I think very highly of the mindset of the users on Facebook either. It's just a mess, and receiving pointless notifications all the time is kind of spammy. I remember in 2003, there used to be some 50+ members logged in at once, but then message boards gradually faded in popularity thanks to things such as Windows Messenger, and then of course, the aforementioned platforms. Before that, it was Myspace.
At least people here are acknowledging the forum is dead. Sometimes, webmasters can never swallow their pride and let go of something they clearly no longer care about. They will leave a forum up as an archive or whatever, but forget to turn off posting. So then people with no lives can go and mess it up. Like, you know? This total shitdump, here... http://anxietyforum.net/forum/
Your forum is being blocked by my ad blocker. What do you have on your website? https://agoraforo.com/ https://forumpromotion.net/ Are good forums that are similar to digitalpoint too.
I was an active member of this forum before 2013, back when it was full of energy and engagement. It’s nostalgic to remember how lively it used to be, although it seems much quieter now.
Check out Biohaze, or other forums I use. It's nearly dead on the majority of the communities I have registered on. While I do receive a response sometimes, it can often feel like it's not worth my while to bother anymore. Then there's people who answer questions with questions, to avoid agreeing with you. It's just how it is. X is what people prefer using.
Coming to the end of 2024, I think one of the things that has happened is people have gotten a lot more busy now -- even if in their minds -- and the overdose of digital exposure during the pandemic has made 'em weary. No one is willing to invest time in posting their opinions or just, discuss, with people online. I see a drop in activity on alternate IM platforms like Discord and Telegram as well. Purely speaking in terms of gauging engagement platforms, the only anomalies to this downturn seem to be Instagram, Reddit and Twitter - with a mix of either of the two, or just one of them depending on the kind of person.
This is something that I have been wondering about for a while. Are we all actually busier? Or does being constantly online (or other factors) make it feel that way when, in actual fact, we are not busier than before?
Not just this one, but all the other forums are dying. Only the largest forums, or small community forums where everyone knows each other, remain more or less alive. The renaissance of forums was at the dawn of the internet, when it was just starting to become mainstream around the world. Everyone was looking for methods of communication and then there were no large corporations that offered their own social networks, and those that were, were not distinguished by quality. All in all, the perfect time for forums to flourish. But times eventually change, and most forums have not been adapted to the current realities. It's a shame really. I really liked the culture of the forums and that informal environment. It's sad. But it's worth noting forums are still great knowledge bases though.
We may as well get used to it. Forums, like everything before and after, naturally ends. People today, though, totally annoy me. It's like instead of doing what works and people will like to come back to (i.e threaded / archived topics easy to read), they feel compelled to play catch up with all the latest trends. So they use X and Facebook now, or Discord. As if X is better than forums.
This is false as many other forums are still striving with daily activity and new members. Not every forum js lacking with engagement
