Well it can be true aswell. Since many big companies have rivals etc. So I mean its all about the company's reputation. A big company would tell less lies ;)

Actually it depends. If you take a huge company like Hostgator then some of their servers might get ddosed often. However whole of their network being under attack is unlikely. I do agree, that ddos is a nice excuse to cover up your own administrational errors, however I'm positive that in most cases it really is an attack.

Servers which are hit by a DDos attack may not always be taken offline, just firewall set to LockDown status.

I myself deal with servers, and it happens to everybody, big company, or one server companies, we don't ever use it as an excuse and never have. However, most people who run these servers do not live close to data centres so still have to allow access via Remote Access or VNC, which still runs risk of DDos Attack because of the open port.

Yep, it does indeed happen to both big and small companies. When I was hosting, my server got DDOS'd, and we had to null route the IP in order to get the attack off the server. I had a large community on the server that I was hosting, and it turns out that this community got into a feud with another large community. So, they decided to DDOS each other, and it was messy.

I think it's true, every company can be DDoSed but server administrator should take down that attack ASAP

There's not much you can do about a DDOS. It all depends on how strong it is.

It can be a lie, but at the same time, it's only too easy to get (D)DoS'd. With the amount of unsecured cPanel hosts, and exploitable scripts (even phpBB with register_globals on), this creates usable servers to create DDoSes with, and so, they only have to dislike one site on you're server and they'll try it.
