Not really, DDoS attacks come from botnets. A botnet is a collection of bots, collected from "Zombie Computers", which are basically every day users who have downloaded something malicious and their computer has been infected. When someone launches a DDoS attack all of these computers (hundreds of them, sometimes thousands) bombard the server with null requests, using all of the resources and leaving none spare for legitimate requests. So in response to your question, unless Shawn wanted to spend the rest of his life reporting thousands of innocent users - I'd say the answer was no. Think of it like every car in the United states trying to go down the same highway at the same time. Too much is going to cause the whole lot to come to a stand-still. This is effectively the same thing as a DDoS. Guys like you make this problem worse than it needs to be. If anything you're putting fuel on the fire instead of helping out. Whoever is DDoSing the forum will be checking this Feedback forum, getting a buzz out of seeing the reaction. The best thing for the forum now would probably be if this topic was deleted and any future topics about the attack were deleted.
haha.. Wrong, Shawn wouldn't have to spend much time on it at all, just report it, hand over the logs and let the law do the rest. DDoS attacks are illegal and Shawn has the right to prosecute and seek damages. Having an idea of who is responsible for the call to action would only make it easier. lol, sweep it under the carpet and hope it goes away aye? yeah right. Guys like you need to get your head out of the sand and see whats shaking in the real world. Cheers James
I can't get on the forum AT ALL. But I guess that's the least of the forum's concerns, I just hope this blows over soon. Whoever is responsible for causing this must have a really sad life, and a really small penis. Didn't get hugs as a child, no girlfriends, and does it with a blow-up doll. I'm positive.
Couldnt have said it better. at least he can enjoy the satisfaction of knowing this doesnt make him look powerful, just pathetic.
I read that script, its actually a very good code to ddos. I don't know how to get around it but may be some sort of prevention of number of connections originating from same IP can fix this thing. As the person who is attacking don't to seem have much knowledge, thats very much possible that he cannot design a botnet to make zombies.
heh You've never have responded to a DDoS attack, have you? Calling the local police, even those with cyber units, is worthless as the attacks are nearly always cross political lines and out of their jurisdiction. National and International cyber units are more interested in battling child porn rings and DDoS attacks against larger sites and corporations like Yahoo. You may have noticed that no international force got involved during the attacks against Facebook and Twitter a month ago. You honestly think they'll take the time to help a tiny site like DP (Sorry, Shawn. being honest.) when they're not helping Facebook? For the last ten years, I've had a former client who lives in Texas who I booted for spamming launching nearly daily attacks against my servers. First question out of the Cyber Texas Rangers unit was did the matter concern terrorism or child porn. They hung up after that. All Time Warner did was give me the class c's based in that town, told me to block him and follow up with a civil complaint. heh Welcome to the real world.
even if he meant DB it wouldnt be technically wrong after all were are talking about the DATABase errors here
goddammit, makes life difficult trying to work around db errors. Please get this fixed guys once and for al.
